Pool decks, docks & patios
There is a lot to consider with a new pool deck, patio or dock construction. As with any new build project, you’ll want to consider the cost and durability of the material to make sure it’s worth your investment. At Ferreteria, we know that solid construction is the key to a solid end result, and the best materials are an integral part of the construction process.

Lumber
In Curaçao, saltpeter and the harsh rays of the sun can destroy treated wood over time. That is why high-quality materials are important for a long lifespan. The first question to ask yourself is therefore: from which type of wood am I going to build the deck?

We recommend exotic hardwood for deck surfaces. Massaranduba is one of the hardest woods in the world which contributes to its incredible durability and longevity. It is also naturally resistant to insect attacks, white ants, mold, rot, fire and decay.
Due to the fine structure of the wood, low needs for maintenance and great slip resistance, Massaranduba is a leading option for high-traffic beach piers and residential decking.
Foundations and substructures of deck beams must also receive the greatest attention. Where your deck will be placed and on what type of surface, can have a long-lasting effect on the life of your deck. Red Locus (Jatoba) is best for the underlying structure on which Massaranduba will be installed.
We highly recommend that you speak directly with us to discuss all possible variables for choosing your deck lumber. For more information about lumber, you can view our wood assortment here.

Ipe Seal End Grain Sealant
Ipe Seal® from DeckWise® is a wax emulsion sealer proven to increase the structural integrity of hardwood decking. Designed to prevent end check (drying gaps) in freshly cut logs, lumber, turning blanks and other exposed wood end and cross grain. Ipe Seal® creates a bond that extends the life of any decking board.
The sooner this sealer is applied to exposed end grain (and cross grain of turnings and carvings), the more effective the coating will be. Application is recommended to the wood within 24 hours of cutting.
The End Sealer can cause color or shade changes in wood, depending on the type, dryness, handling or other natural variables. If this is of concern, first test the sealer on a sample piece(s) and let stand for 48 hours. See label for specific first aid warning instructions. DO NOT apply to walking surfaces!
Thompson’s Clear Multi-Surface Waterproofer
Use this as a wood sealer, brick sealer or for concrete waterproofing.
- Prevents water damage.
- Allows wood to grey naturally.
